Making the Invisible Visible
Locative and pervasive narrative

"As data and network coverage becomes available to us in just about any geographic location, our daily lives are becoming increasingly more connected and augmented by digital content available to us through our mobile devices. Be it through GPS enabled maps that can pinpoint our exact location in the world or live bus times from a QR code at a bus stop, this content is both ‘locative’; knowing where we are, and inescapably ‘pervasive’; imbedded everywhere we are. This project is concerned with the construction and communication of a sequential narrative by turning this invisible digital content that surrounds us into a visible augmented experience.
A narrative is built within and communicated through a medium. The medium in this case is the smartphone."

Last year I was obsessed with a game- "Pokémon Go" for a while although, it was no longer than just a month. Pokemon Go gained huge popularity all over the world and in one year,Pokemon GO had spread everywhere. The manufacturer, Nintendo, introduced more interesting features and more gameplays which attracted even more of a fan-base for Pokemon Go.
It is a location-based augmented reality game. The game utilizes the player's mobile device's GPS ability to locate, capture, battle and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, which appear on the screen as if they were at the same real-world location as the player.
Now with Pokemon Go reaching its peak number of players, many game developers have also come up with similar games like Pokemon Go,such as Aliens on the Table, Father.io, Real Strike, Geocaching...

Then I downloaded an app - Aurasma. Aurasma is HP Autonomy's augmented reality platform. It is available as a software development kit or as a free app for iOS- and Android-based mobile devices. Aurasma's image recognition technology uses a smartphone's or tablet's camera to recognize real world images and then overlay media on top of them in the form of animations, videos, 3D models and web pages.

When your camera focuses on the object that you set up, and scan it, an animation, a picture or some information will appear on the screen.

Further Ideas

Imagining standing in front of a street map board and behind this board is a long shopping street, like the north laines for example. Each one has been located on the map, but you might not know: What the shop looks like? What the style of the shop is? What they are selling? Or more information about it...
than the traditional map board would tell you (you might only find brand names, logos, and location but you couldn’t get any more information).
I wanted to create something that members of the public could interact with and, more importantly, create something that had a value to both retailers and their potential customers. In this way, and using the North Laines as a starting point, I plan to create a series of promotion Aurasma for the street map board. My idea is to create a promotional Aurasma for some stores, which could be integrated onto the map board so that when you scan the logo on the map board, an animated advertisement will replace the logo you've scanned and appear on your phone. The animation could include the storefronts, the products they sell, information about the store-owners, the history of the building and even feature the kind of music that the store plays…..
I thought it would beneficial to the store owner – to offer some kind of discount advertising(eg. 10%) that customers could use if they have a discount screenshot. - good for the business owner and good for the customer.

Then i decided three stores in the North Laines. i bring my camera outside take some photographs for the storefront.
After that i did some sketches of them, chose the best position sketches scanned them into illustration software. because i want to create a short animation for the store, so i think use computer is the right way.

After I created one picture for each store, I start to edit the animation. I gave each store the main colour which depends on the different moods they bring me. Also chose background music for each. For example, I chose a Buddhist Meditation music for the store named Louts, the reason I chose it is Louts is a store sell Buddhism items.

A series of Aurasma to be at various entrance points to the North Laines, but instead of giving directions, listing all of the shops in the North Laines. Next to the name of each shop, would be a logo or storefront, which when scanned on your phone, would bring up a short animation telling you more about information about the shop, for example:
- The opening times
- the kind of products and price ranges
- perhaps something about the owner (if the owner gave his/her consent)
